"Self Conscience" Prodigy & Nas (produced by The Infinite Arkatechz)
When I was younger… I truly believed Queensbridge hip hop was untouchable, especially when I heard songs like this. I remember being completely blown away by this song when I first got the QB Finest album (my friend Eddie gave it to me for $5 dollars because he didn’t like it). If my mind serves me correct, I think Prodigy dropped his H.N.I.C. album that next week, and that album was hard as hell too.
Just listen to the song…these brothers were possessed, and that beat has this airy atmospheric sound. I really dug how Prodigy rhymed as if he’s talking to himself (or his “conscience”) and then Nas finishes up the song with an incredible verse, that got so many rewinds.
"Take my word niggas wanna hear how you think It be that shit that you wouldn’t expect to win, that stay playin in they decks over and again Speak your thoughts, put your all in it Whatevers in your mind, spit it Place your anger on the page, release tension on the tape A stress verse, seem to be what they most thirst”
This is my second random list, decided to try it again, maybe I’ll get better at it eventually.
Today is such a nice day, just got back from eating Caribbean food with my sister Chanana and her daughter.
It’s good food, it’s only the second time I’ve been there, and the third time I’ve eaten Caribbean food.
The place is called Caribbean Grill, if you’re ever in Dallas check it out.
It’s black owned too… I think.
My weekend was real cool, I visited San Antonio for the first time in a year and half.
I was only there for a day, but it was nice seeing a few friends.
Didn’t get to run into all the people I wanted to, because they didn’t answer the phone, or they were busy, but its all good.
My old friend Hoyt was looking pretty brolic when I saw him, making me feel I need to step it up.
Funniest thing this weekend was I ran into a girl I knew from Blackplanet from like 6 or 7 years.
It was the first time we had ever met, I don’t know why we never met before, I think she got mad at me about something, but its all good.
"You know how girls on Black Planet be when they get bubblee…" Kanye West
I’m listening to Gang Starr with Chanana right now, trying to show her some good hip hop.
Gang Starr was of my favorite hip hop groups growing up.
We’re listening to “What I’m Here 4” off the Moment of Truth LP.
Man, I miss Guru, I wish Guru and Premier would have done one more album together….RIP GURU.
This year for Valentine’s Day, I didn’t do anything, but go to school, get lunch with a friend, and chill at home.
I’m not big on Valentine’s Day, but If I’m diggin a girl I’ll celebrate it, but this year I’m single, I tell you it’s hard finding good girls, that are actually interesting, they all seem to be taken.
Last year I had a Valentine, and she gave me one of the sweetest cards ever.
I think I’ve only had 4 valentine’s my whole life.
My first Valentine was a girl named Laquisha, and it was in 8th grade.
She gave me a little stuffed bumble bee that said “Will you bee my honey?”, I was too shy to try for a kiss with my gift.
She was my gf in 8th grade, but had dumped me for a older guy that was thuggish with braids…
I was so heart broken by her dumping me too, kind of funny thinking about it now.
Congrats to Esperanza, John Legend and The Roots for winning Grammy’s this year, I was real surprised by Esperanza winning best new artist over Drake and Justin Bieber, I mean I really figured no talented Bieber would have got it.
Funny thing is she isn’t a new artist, but I’m glad she won that award, shows GOOD music gets recognized sometimes.
I read the Bieber fans went into Esperanza’s wiki paged and messed it all up.
It’s 6:37, I need to get on with the rest of my day. PEACE for now.
So I’ve decided to try this random list thing out, my buddy Lena Lene does them (she’s little-life-giver on tumblr), and I always thought they were the dopest thing.
We had another snow day today, and school was canceled again.
We’ve already missed pretty much a whole week of school in the last week and half.
My Compensation class that meets once a week on wed, was canceled for the second straight week, so now we’re about 2 weeks behind in class.
I’m bored at home, should be studying, but watching Unlawful Entry, I believe Ray Liotta is an underrated actor.
I think I sound lame on here LOL!
Rest in peace Marvin Sease.
I’m chatting with my old friend Carolyn on facebook, whom I haven’t seen in almost 3 years.
She just asked me if I was still into “black consciousness”.
Carolyn was one of my good friends when I lived in San Antonio, we use to have some intense conversations back then, everything from music, dating to black people.
She recently “came out”, and is proud of it, I think its dope.
Her talking to me about some of the radical thinking of some black people, reminds me of this lecture I saw Lauryn Hill doing when she was 25, talking about how when she was young she had very thin skin, and as she got older she developed thick skin, I totally felt what Mrs. Hill was saying.
Speaking of Mrs. Hill, man I’ve been reading a lot of bad reviews of her tour, is it really that bad?
I’d still go see her in concert, even if she was that bad, but she didn’t have any tour dates in Texas.
I read shes been forcing the people to wait 2 and 3 hours before getting on stage.
That reminds me of one time I saw Erykah Badu in Austin, and she had us wait for like 4 hours!
It’s 1:45pm, and I haven’t done NOTHING, I need to do like Cee-lo said, “Nigga, you need to get up, get out, and get somethin”
I remember I was in 5th grade when I first heard “Git Up, Get Out” by Outkast featuring Goodie Mob, IT BLEW MY MIND, Cee-lo bodied it with that first verse.
I didn’t fully understand the message in the song til I was in high school, maybe I was a little naive, but a lot of songs were like that for me.
Project: Find a Job has been UNSUCCESSFUL
I’ve put in about 4 or 5 applications in the last few weeks, and I haven’t heard anything yet… I gotta stay positive and continue being patient.
I’ll end this list here :)

Today Stalley dropped his much anticipated mixtape Lincoln Way Heights (Intelligent Trunk Music), and I’m diggin this joint here. This mixtape features all production by his boy Rashad, and the album is exactly what the title describes intelligent trunk music. This joint is perfect music to ride around to, only if I had a dope system in my car, I’d be able to get the full effect. Lyrically Stalley does his thing with his conscious and insightful, yet smooth flow, over Rashad’s trunk thumpin production.
Download Lincoln Way Heights (Intelligent Trunk Music)here
If you haven’t heard of Stalley, I recommend checking him out immediately, he’s one of my favorite new class MCs. He represents Ohio, and gained a lot of buzz last year from his 2009 release of MadStalley: The Autobirography mixtape. I didn’t learn about Stalley until early summer of 2010, when he was featured on Curren$y’s"Address" music video, I thought he dropped a fantastic verse, and had much better verse than Curren$y himself, oh and thought he had an ill look with the long beard.
I’m sure everybody can relate to songs that remind them of past lovers or someone they might have liked, or hell even just a friend. There are many songs I hear that remind me of old girlfriends, and it’s so funny, because some songs even after relationships from 15 years still remind me of certain girls. Even funnier, but I still even remember where I first heard these songs, and what was going on in my life around the time. This is like the soundtrack to my ex girlfriends and to even some of the girls I liked, but never dated, I hope none of them read this, because I’m sure some of them will know I’m talking about them.
So out of pure boredom, since I have no job or friends I’ve decided to compile a top 25 list of albums I enjoyed in 2010. I didn’t branch out too much musically this year, so I wont have a lot of obscure albums like some people might have, but this is more or less the albums I enjoyed the most. This year I didn’t listen to as much hip hop as I usually have in the past, and listened to more R&B and soul music. These aren’t the only albums I listened to, but just the top 25, it was hard enough compiling this, so I just stopped at 25.

2. The Original Man The Passion Project

7. The Roots How I Got Over
8. Aloe Blacc Good Things
9. Cee-Lo Green The Lady Killer
10. R. Kelly Love Letters
11. Jaheim Another Round
