Junior M.A.F.I.A. “Lyrical Wizardy” (prod by Akshun) 1995
I remember when I use to bump Junior M.A.F.I.A.’s Conspiracy album when I was younger, and always thinking besides B.I.G, Klepto might have been the nicest in the group. He seemed like the most natural MC out of all of them besides B.I.G., and he wrote all his rhymes, had witty punchlines, a nice flow and great delivery. He even held his own on the back and forth rappin on "Oh My Lord" with B.I.G, even though B.I.G owned that track. One thing that stood out about his voice, was he had a slight lisp, isn’t it kind of funny how a lot of great/good MCs have lisp (B.I.G., Kool G Rap, Rhymefest, Method Man, RA the Rugged Man). Unfortunately, I’ve never been able to find anything about Klepto ever since. I don’t think he ever released a solo album, or did much outside of Junior M.A.F.I.A.
The song “Lyrical Wizardy” is my favorite song off the album (along with "Oh My Lord" and "Realms of Junior M.A.F.I.A"). MC Klepto rode that beat spittin bars on one of the best tracks on the albums. In the song Klepto says he’s 15 years old, If dude was really 15 on that track, man dude was pretty ill, with the vivid details he was giving on guns, drugs, and the street life.
I discovered Muddy Waters album Electric Mud this weekend, and this shit seriously fucked me up….In a good way, I seriously dig it. I had heard this version of “Mannish Boy” before a while ago while playing music on my last.fm station, and was always curious to hear the album it came from (but was too lazy, and my computer was down for a good three months). The album is great, it was a new direction for Muddy Waters, and this song is one of my favorite songs off album. I do dig the original version too, it’s very raw style of blues, but this shit fucked me up the first time I heard it, I was like wait hold up, this is like psychedelic blues, I DIG IT!
P.S. I also discovered Howlin Wolf’s The Howlin Wolf Album LP, shit may never be the same again for me after hearing these two albums.
“Some people say love is obsolete, but they are wrong. Love is what makes everything in the universe possible. Love is not depended upon liking the same movies or on species needed for procreation. Love is depended on life, and life alone. Someone once told me that as long as one person loves something it can live forever. You are that person, you have that love, and I’d give it today to everything that you want to live tomorrow.”—George, Obselidia
